The Marriage Test

2013-04-01

Let's see what Wikipedia says about marriage, in the oft-quoted "between a man and a woman" sense. A man is "an adult human male". A woman is "a female human". A male is "the physiological sex which produces sperm". A female "produces non-mobile ova (egg cells)". So marriage is between a human that produces sperm and a human that produces egg cells. What about men that are infertile and don't produce sperm for whatever reason (injury, vasectomy, etc). Some women don't produce eggs. Can an example of each of these then not be married? I don't think a lot of couples get a sperm count taken before they exchange rings.

Maybe you would say that women have vaginas and men have penises, and a marriage has to have one of each. Did the pastor check your genitalia before saying "you may now kiss the bride"?

Two people of differing races couldn't get married in the United States before 1967. This is like a bad joke that people keep trying to tell.

Why should being allowed to marry the one you love be based on sperm, genitalia, or any other such physical aspect?
