Be Fearless
2013-04-08
What are you afraid of? I'm going to say 99% of what you scares you is either out of your control or something really not to be feared. I'll focus on the latter, since there's not much we can do with the uncontrollable. If you stop and think, it's easy to see why your fears are laughable and not really something to fear. Not laughable in the sense that they are silly, but laughable in that you shouldn't have them at all.
The problem is that, with all that fear strapped on your back, you'll never get anything done. If your always afraid of what someone thinks of you, or that things won't work out, or that you will mess something -- if these things are on your mind a lot -- then your life is on lock down. If you let your fears keep you from doing things then you need step back and think about why you are afraid.
Next time you feel that fear come up, just ignore it. Maybe you need to say something to someone important to you. Maybe you want to apply for that job you really want. The person you need to talk to might not enjoy the conversation but obviously it's important for you to have it. You might not get the job, but there are others. You see, the worst-case scenario is that things don't go quite right. But you will make it through. And you will learn. You will learn to talk to your friend in a better way. You'll gain experience useful when applying to jobs. And you will be better for it. But if you let fear stop you, then you will be exactly where you are today: afraid.
So let go of what scares you. Be fearless.
